Isn't she cute!?   I was a bit worried how this portrait would turn out as Jess is so light coloured, luckily I had just the right shades in my pencil box so it wasn't as complicated as I thought, instead of it taking many layers to build up the colour, the main shade was bistro, I was sure if I had to add too many layers the colour would have become muddy See more work by pet portrait artist in the the gallaries By this stage most of Jess' body has been completed. I was not too keen to do the muddy pool as I thought it just looked like an inkwell of dark ink without much detail. I suggested to the client to put Jess on grass, however it seems Jess spends a lot of time in puddles and as it was such a big part of her personality, the client asked if she could be put into a lighter puddle.... See other dogs by pet portrait artist     And so she was put into a lighter puddle. I kept the colour scheme to compliment the colourings of Jess and the client was very happy with this. And here is the finished portrait, strangely enough I had left the mouth until the end, bit odd but at least now Jess can smile!
