These 3 beauties in order are Baron the rottweiler, Daisy the English bull terrier and Saffie the rottweiler cross.
This is to be a graphite pencil portrait so I begin at the top of the page to prevent smudging as I work. Luckily Daisy the English Bull Terrier is in quite a lot of shade on her one side otherwise I could prove difficult to portray a white dog on white paper. Also as she is sat next to Baron the black rottweiler there is alos a lot of contrast which is also very helpful
As the most importrant work of any pet portrait artist is to ensure a good likeness to the subjects, I wanted to get all the heads done first as these are the most importrant part, and of the heads, the eyes must be accurate otherwise the entire portrait is spoilt. The eyes are also my favourite part of any portrait
Again, as usual I started working from right to left on Saffie's body to prevent smudging, at this point I was really pleased with how things had worked out. I used a 2H pencil, which although unusual, meant I could ensure each line was visibale creating a more 3d effect.
The portrait is now complete and I kept them on a very bland and minimal background as the portrait was so large.
