This is Charlie the springer spaniel who is to be one of my next pencil pets portraits from photos. Charlie is the lucky winner (and owner Keren) of a coloured pencil portrait after entering my competition and receiving an amazing 1447 votes, what a popular dog!!! Of all pets, I love working as an animal portrait artist on spaniels the most.
What a lovely dog, his owner Keren has sent plenty of other images to help with the colouring and so on, the original image is a little redder than all the others so I have toned down the shade a little to get it correct. Charlie has a rope type toy between his paws in pin and blue and it is quite hard work to get all the strands to be in the correct direction, a bit of hard work and good eye-sight is needed at this point.
I have started to put background onto Charlie's portrait at this stage, this contrasts against the white of his fur which was not visible until now.
