Pencil Portraits from Photos by Pet Portrait Artist Karie-Ann Cooper Back to home page   Another graphite pencil portrait, this time of two little Jack Russells for a local client by pet portrait artist Karie-Ann Cooper.   As usual I begin work on the right side to prevent smudging as I lean over the paper. I always start with the eyes, but in this photo the eyes had caught the flash of the camera so it was a bit of trial and error to get them to look right, luckily the first attempt was fine. I was unable to get clearer pictures of the eyes as the dog had unfortunately passed away but it turned out I didn't need anymore anyway. See more work by pet portrait artist in the the gallaries   I used mainly a 2H pencil for the basic layers then added depth with an HB pencil, this ensured every detail was clear on the portrait. See other dogs by pet portrait artist   Then work begins on the second jack russell, for some unknown reason I left out an ear and continued to work on the second dog!!! Anyway, both are completed in the final image, this was a local commission so I mounted and framed this commission for the client.
