animal painting by animal portrait artist Karie-Ann Cooper
This was a more unusual animal painting to become another pencil portraits from photos of three dexter cows named Cilla, Bonnie and Constance, it was commissioned by their owner's daughter as a surprise present. Unfortunately the original images did not show the eyes in much detail so I had to take my own....
...not much fun when one was heavily pregnant not much fun for an animal portrait artist!!!! She was meant to have calved the night before I turned up and was alittle impatient, but the brown dexter was like a pet dog and wanted to be fussed (she was of course a lot larger than a pet dog!!)
As usual I worked from right to left as with all my pencil portraits from photos to prevent smudging, it would be physically impossible for these three to stand as close as they are in more portrait due to their horns, they were huge.
I blocked in the first cow with the grey undertones and then moved onto the brown dexter, the images and the cows colours made a good composition I thought.
I then began filling more solid colour to bring the cows out from the page and making them look more 3d. Finally I began work on the last cow (first from left to right)
