My first corgi pet portrait!!! This is to be a graphite pencil portrait for a local customer.
As usual I begin with the eyes and then work the surrounding area. I used HB pencils for this portrait, two types, one was more gritty but lighter whilst the other was smooth and dark. Obviously different brands of pencils can make as much difference as anything else.
I use fine lines to depict the fur in detail, this does take a long time as the direction of fur needs to be shown, After putting down light lines I then go back dakening the shaded areas.
Almost done now, the fur on the back of the corgi is a bit wavy so I need to make sure this is shown.
As the corgi is sat on paving stones I decided it would be better just to show the shading underneath so I've added shadows around the paws to give a more realistic look.
