This little girl called Kaitlin was brave enough to be a model for me. she posed several times, usually with her dogs but finally her Dad managed to get a good photo for me to produce my first child pencil portraits from photos. Hasn't she got a cheeky grin.
I began by using sepia to draw Kaitlin's outline onto the paper, I also roughly coloured in any shaded areas to help guide me when I coloured her in properly
I used many colours to create flesh tones, I found this very difficult and kept the colours I used in my hands to ensure I did not get them mixed up to enable me to recreate the flesh colour all over her face. This was one of my more difficult pencil portraits from photos.
I fully completed Kaitlin's face before I began her hair, I wanted to ensure I would get her face shape correct before putting in any additional work on the page
I am quite pleased with this as it was my first child portrait and as they say you can only get better!!
