Dog Portraits in pastel, collies Jess and Lassie
This is the finished dog portrait in pastel of Jess and Lassie which was sent off last week to a very pleased client. My photos are never very good, well maybe not the photos but the editing has a lot of improving to do! All the stages for this portrait can be seen on my facebook page or my twitter page
Working on the cat portrait in between other portraits and now started work on Ziggy, the little jack russell king charles spaniel cross shown up on the left hand side. He’s so cute!

And so for a bit of home news, Willow started physio for her arthritis last week and did far better than I thought she would, she’s a bit of a baby and is terrified on the odd occasion when I am not around. Anyway she was a little neurotic to start with but eventually she seemed to calm down, although possibly not enjoy it!

Pet Portraits News
Well it seems my blog has already fallen by the wayside so a few little updates for you all!
Nelson’s dog portrait has been completed and framed and now posted too

Plus I started a cat portrait but this has been put to one side for the moment, this is how far I got

pastel cat portrait of Zebee
and now I’m working on a double collie portrait which I will blog later.
I’ve also been working on my pet portraits facebook page and added a few mini pages, I may yet go back to make it a micro site but will need a little more time to do that, something which is in very short supply at the moment. Also I should let you know I am about to run a competition for a free pet portrait on my facebook page so please feel free to take part.
On a more personal note, Willow is now about to start hydrotherapy due to her arthritis. I am glad and sad about this at the same time, glad there are more treatments to help her leg muscles become stronger but also sad that she needs it so young, she is now approaching 3 and a half and is still romping around but the vet has noticed a loss of muscle mass around her left thigh. We start hydro on Thursday, the problem is Willow hates water so I have my fingers crossed she can overcome this. Although she is a big black menacing looking alsatian, she is such a soft coward and a bit of a cry baby, no doubt I’ll be the one soaked through for our efforts!

I’ve been plodding away with my next dog portrait which is the lovely Nelson who has sadly passed away. This is a larger than life portrait and also my first wet dog painting which is a bit of a change even though it’s the 3rd black dog in a row. Next up is a pair of black and white collies, then a black King Charles Spaniel, best order some more black pastels I think!
Springador dog portraits, Amber
Amber’s dog portrait is now completed, mounted and ready for packing. Moving onto the next dog portraits…. no rest for the wicked
Pastel cat portraits of Frank
Frank’s portrait is now completed and ready for packing and posting. It’s not often I get to do a cat portrait so it really has been a pleasant change to do. Hopefully some more will come in soon! I’ve also given my website a bit of a make over, lots more to do though so it’s still a work in progress and I’m also about to set up a page for Frank’s cat portrait so everyone can follow the portrait as it was created to see how I work. Am now really loving pastels and the speed they can be used at, still I’m sure after a few more I’ll be pleased to get a pencil portrait for a change!
Cat Portraits in Pastel
Due to the very poor television programmes on I was able to get on great guns with this cat portrait of Frank as the best film on last night was ‘Scary Movie’ so after having seen it several hundred times I just got on with this pastel portrait. I’ve done quite a bit of work underneath the collar and it still needs some tidying up but I’m still amazed by how fast my pet portraits are appearing before my very eyes!
Hope you like it!
Cat Portrait in pastel
This is the start of a cat portrait of the very pretty Frank, who sadly died last year. His owners wanted a fitting tribute to their beautiful cat and a reminder of him to keep.
Once again this is in pastels on fisher paper and these are the first two early stages

Cocker spaniel pastel dog portrait
This is my next portrait, the lovely Sally who is a very cute cocker spaniel. Her love in life is her toy and it just had to be included in her portrait.
Here are a couple of stages so far plus her on the easel as I was working

Aside from Sally I have packed up two more portraits ready for delivery in early January and am now getting ready to order some more pastels and paper supplies in case I run out!!!
It’s still very busy for me and I hope to keep my blog more up to date than of late (we’ll see how that goes!) and I’ve also got lots of wonderful reference images sorted to produce more paintings to display and sell, if I ever get chance to do them that is!
Not far off the New Year now so hope you all enjoy your celebrations and make lots of resolutions you can keep easily.
